History / Charter: The History of Local 80

In 1920 it was apparent that another Asbestos Local Union was needed in the Ohio Valley.  With the combined efforts of Brother Emory Hockenberry and C.W. Lett a charter was issued in 1926 to Local 80 Charleston, W. Va.   During the depression years the membership dwindled to seven members.  In 1938 Brother Emory Hockenberry along with Brother Vernon Adkins was granted a charter for Charleston and Huntington, W. Va.

It was with their foresight along with this new charter in hand, that Local 80 has become one of the strongest Locals within the International.

The constant growth and strength of the Local Union can be attributed to the forefathers of our Union.  The constant reminder of their struggles through the efforts of organized labor to bring about dignity and respect for the working man is still the foremost thought and goal for our present members and leaders.
