Opie was issued membership into Local 80 in 1929. He was elected Business Agent in 1949 and served this office until 1951. Brother Adkins once again served as Business Agent from 1966 to 1967.

Opie retired from Local 80 on May 19, 1970 and he died at his home on November 17, 1970. Opie will be remembered by Local 80 members as one of the old-timers who created and fought for such a great organization we have today.
